HSE Cracks Down on Dangerous Construction Sites in Shropshire

The HSE issued 15 prohibition notices during a round of inspections in Shropshire. The visits had the following aims:
stopping dangerous practices on construction sites;
raising awareness in relation to construction site risks; and
preventing unnecessary injuries and deaths.
Although the Shropshire area was not responsible for any of the construction industry deaths during 2008/09, 64 people were injured.

A Glasgow based security firm, were fined £7,000 following the death of one of their security guards from carbon monoxide poisoning on a construction site in Hamilton.

Prison Service Censured following Legionella Death

Following the death of an inmate from Legionnaire’s Disease the Nothern Ireland Prison Service (NIPS) has been censured. The prisoner died in hospital on the 7th of February 2007 10 days after having been transferred from the HMP Magilligan in Limavady, Co. Derry. A Gas Fitter was fined over £50,000 after being found guilty of putting lives at risk.

On 14th June it was announced by the Prime Minister, David Cameron, that the Government has instructed a review of how Health & Safety Law within the UK operates.
